Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! - Tuesday, December 20, 2011
It's been a slower year than normal at the CSPPRY. More playing trains than projects, which, of course, is a good thing! Even I have been busy away from the railroad getting my Allen mogul closer and closer to firing up for the first time. I would like to wish everyone a very merry Christmas and a safe and happy new year! - J. Schuch, webmaster

Mueller Meet - Friday, October 7, 2011 (updated)

A couple videos of WOFA #175 and Pennsylvania #8912 doubleheading.
The weather was perfect and a great time was had by all. Thanks to all those that came to visit and to everyone that helped keep things running smoothly both before and during the meet.

Late in the day, the guys gathered up 39 assorted cars and coupled them up to Wayne Godshall's coal fired Pennsy 2-10-2. Wayne quite readily pulled them up the ongoing grades at the Canton, St. Paul and Pacific Railway, Canton GA. You had to see it, and hear it! I/we were able to parallel view it, most of the way up. It was the greatest display of power that I have ever seen in the hobby! Train is at the Elizabeth station, top of the grades, Sept. 30, 2011. - Fred Clark

Interactive Map - Tuesday, July 5, 2011
I just added a new feature to the multimedia page. It's an interactive map that allows you to click on a section of our railroad and watch a video of it in HD via YouTube. I'll be expanding upon that map in the future to include more videos and photos.

A few bits of last minute preparations for our spring run weekend (see news of April 10, 2011 for more info) on Saturday included installing the water column at Elizabeth depot, the section house at East End Yard, as well as some track repair and cleanup. All that's left now is to wait and hope for good weather.

Thought I'd do something different every once in a while for the website. The photos above are "Then" and "Now" photos. Click each pair and they'll open in new tabs so you can switch back and forth.

More photos can be found here.

The CSP&P hosted 64 guests from the Surgical Services Department at Northside Hospital – Cherokee last Saturday April 16th. There were lots of rides behind CSP&P 9906, D&RGW 453, and Bill’s new remote control diesel switcher. Jimmy E provided more steam ambiance on the W of A ten wheeler. Kevin D spent quite a bit of time doing show and tell with young engineers on the 453. Ralph and Donna Tucker were very busy in the kitchen with a choice of Italian Sausage, Hot Dogs, or Hamburgers. Donna brought two of her excellent salads. Priscilla had some great cookies and brownies for desert. We received many thank you’s and great comments on our beautiful railroad.
Thank you to all the members who were out to help us make this a successful event. - Dallas

Also, work has begun on a proper ash pit for both Canton loop bypass tracks as well as (pictured above) a water column to be installed at Elizabeth station.

Gettin' Warm - Sunday, April 10, 2011

Many thanks to Paul Pool and Bill Hays for helping the CSPPRY with some much needed track repairs while they were visiting. Midland siding and the Canton loop both got some excellent repairs that were long overdue.

The CSPPRY is hosting an invitational meet from May 13th until May 15th. If you're interested in attending, please contact club vice president Ralph Tucker at ralphtucker (at) hotmail (dot) com for more information.

Springtime, finally! - Saturday, April 2, 2011
The weather couldn't have been better, sun and 70's for this Saturday get-together. The smell of wood smoke drifting through the woods, you just knew Bill Bryan was stoking a fire in Babe, his PKR#5 NG steamer. After a SLOW build up of steam she went into passenger service giving Jennel's granddaughter her first train ride. Now that's the way to break the one year old into the live steam hobby. Paul Pool ran his boxcab electric, NYC, GE-8164 with relief engineer Kirk Benson taking a turn at the throttle. Bill Bryan's diesel road switcher #6501 dressed in her Etowah River Route colors was under the able hands of Bill Hays. CSPPRY 9906 was pressed into work train service by John Schuch to repair a couple bad joints. DRG-38, Ralph Tucker's NG center cab 65 ton switcher add the "Ambo" parlor car to accommodate Charlton Jones and Ambo behind Dallas Giddens on a passenger car. Kevin Doe showed up WITHOUT his steamer, so we won't let him play trains with us. The scenery around the track is beautiful in the spring time. Another couple days of sunshine and all the leaves will be out and you won't be able to see through the woods. Those who were there had a GREAT time. - Ralph

Misc Goings On - Wednesday, March 2, 2011
Your editor has been rather busy lately (building his tender!) and hasn't had a chance to visit the railroad in the past few weeks; that doesn't mean nothing is happening! Lots of smaller projects are getting done. The upgrades to the signal actuator switches (to prevent them from breaking) is complete, the remote switch throw at Bryan Wye is getting ready for installation, and ballasting and track work. Tom Bee stopped by for a visit this week as well.

Don't forget, Saturday, March 19 will be a regular club run day, so come on out if you can.

10th Annual Groundhog Day Run - Saturday, February 5, 2011

The rain moved on just in time for the 10th annual Groundhog Day run this morning. With over 40 people in attendance, the railroad was bustling with eager passengers. D&RGW #453 did most of the heavy hauling, PK&R #5 and 9906 providing service for the rest of the riders. Unfortunately, Central of Georgia #408 had to be taken out of service after losing an expansion link bushing.

Many thanks to club treasurer Dallas for making all the arrangements, including a tasty lunch from the best BBQ in Georgia, Williamson Brothers.

If you have any photos you'd like to submit, please pass them along, as I didn't get a chance to take many myself.

White Christmas on the CSPPRY and Happy New Year! - Saturday, January 8, 2011

What better way to celebrate the first white Christmas in Georgia since 1882 than by firing up a couple locomotives, which is exactly what club members Guy, Chuck, Richard, and Bill did on Christmas day.

Here's hoping that everyone has a great 2011. Happy new year from the CSPPRY.
